Harris Point is an island located 5 miles off of the mainland. There is one bridge connecting the island to the mainland and there is also a ferry. The island is 4.3 square miles. Harris Point is a resort community with 8 resorts on the island. The municipality's revenue is mainly supported by tourism and sales tax.

CITY HISTORY

Harris Point is named for FHP Trooper Charlie Harris, a retired member of the Florida Highway Patrol, where he served as a Trooper, Driving Instructor, Public Affairs Officer, and Recruiter for over 30 years. Charlie served in the Air Force Reserves for 35 years, where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.  Charlie has served Boys State as a Lead City Counselor and Residence Hall Manager for many years and is currently assigned as a Quartermaster.  Charlie is a member of Post 67 of Miami.

Harris Point is a resort community with 8 resorts on the island and is home to only 1,048 permanent residents. The municipality's revenue is mainly supported by tourism and sales tax.
